Fast & Furious is about to release its tenth movie, and a lot has happened in the franchise’s 20+ years. Among the most notable is the loss of actor Paul Walker, who co-starred in seven of these films with Vin Diesel and is dearly mourned not just in the series, but in the film industry as a whole. The actor’s birthday was last Sunday, September 12th, and our eternal Dominic Toretto chose to pay tribute to him on his own Instagram page.

Vin Diesel not only pays respect to Paul Walker on a regular basis, but also makes several references to the actor in his films and interviews alluding to this universe. One of the most recent incidents occurred during his appearance on the show USA Today, in which he stated that he only continued the project and would terminate it in the 11th feature due to a promise he made to his former co-star.

He was thrilled with every film we did. I would come up with the storylines for him since he was always so happy and proud that his brother thought up such movies before the studio. He was happy with himself. When I greeted him, he had that huge smile on his face. We talked later that night, and I told him that we would do so until the 10th film, which will be broken into two parts. It may not mean much to others, but it means a lot to me since that’s the promise I made to my brother. And I vow to keep it.

At one time, Diesel claimed that hiring John Cena in Fast & Furious 9 was a sign from Walker: “I remember John Cena going into this little sanctuary that I had, where I kind of went to meditate, train, and start getting into that Dom frame of mind,” he said. “Call me crazy, but I recall feeling like Pablo, the man Paul Walker sent me.”

In his most recent tribute to the actor, Diesel has publish a photo of the two on the set of the film with the caption: “So much to tell you… typically I’d say you wouldn’t believe how I spent your birthday… but to be safe, I know you were there with me in spirit.”

After Fast & Furious 9, the franchise is nearing the end of its run, with the next film set to hit theaters on April 7, 2023. Fast & Furious 10 and 11 will be shot sequentially and will begin filming in January 2022. This is due to the fact that the plot’s final chapters are essentially one tale that will be divided into two sections.
