Similar to its predecessor, Requiem is a third-person perspective action-adventure game. In the game, the player takes control of Amicia and must battle both French Inquisition soldiers and plague-spreading rat armies. The gameplay is substantially identical to the original, but the combat system has been significantly enhanced. Amicia is armed with a dagger for stabbing foes, a sling for hurling boulders, and a crossbow that enables her to quickly defeat armored foes. Alchemical mixes can be used to combine crossbow bolts, throwing pots, and rocks. In addition to Ignifer and Extinguis, which let the player start and extinguish flames, the game features tar, which enhances the light source’s radius and may be used to ignite adversaries.
Locations are substantially larger in Requiem, providing players with more progression choices. Requiem expands on stealth. Amicia, unlike Innocence, would survive a single enemy attack. She can also return to stealth after being discovered by an opponent and defend herself from their attacks if she gets too close. Hugo, the brother of Amicia who has a connection to the epidemic, possesses the “Echo” skill, which exposes enemy locations through walls. Hugo can also command swarms of rats to overwhelm his foes. Similar to the prior game, light-averse rats play a significant role in this game. Amicia and Hugo must remain in the light or the rats will devour them. Amicia can use the rats to solve puzzles and can even lure them to kill foes.
In addition, the game has a progression system that rewards the player with more skills and powers. The player’s gear and equipment can also be upgraded at workbenches.
