Naughty Dog teases an Uncharted-Style game
Naughty Dog has hinted at a possible comeback to the studio’s mega-popular Uncharted franchise. Although Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End seems to be the obvious end to protagonist Nathan Drake’s narrative, Naughty Dog hasn’t ruled out the possibility of returning to that world in the future in some way.
The news of Naughty Dog’s ongoing interest in Uncharted comes from a recent interview with co-presidents Evan Wells and Neil Druckmann. The presidential duo were questioned directly by Game Informer if they would like to continue developing new games for the Uncharted and The Last of Us series, or whether they would rather go on to something new. In response, Wells stated that the studio would want to do all of the above if given sufficient time.
“I believe the straightforward response is both,” Wells stated plainly. “I believe there is enthusiasm to develop new IP, but there is also a great deal of affection for Uncharted and The Last of Us, and I believe you will see both types of projects from us in the future.”
Obviously, this statement from Wells does not indicate that Naughty Dog is currently developing a new Uncharted game, but it is one of the few times in recent years that we have heard a senior Naughty Dog executive express a desire to make further Uncharted titles. However, at this point in time, it’s difficult to tell whether or not a new Uncharted title is being developed for the PlayStation 5.
According to what we’ve heard over the last several months, Naughty Dog appears to be working on at least two titles at the moment. One is a separate multiplayer game tied to The Last of Us, while the other is a reimagining of the original The Last of Us. For the time being, it appears as though Uncharted is not in the studio’s future plans, although that might change as time passes.
