Sifu, a kung fu brawler, will deliver the first punch in February of next year
A larger audience seems more deserving of Absolver’s flashy kung fu fights, and Sifu appears to be their second chance. It’s a singleplayer vengeance narrative about hitting and parrying across cinematic backgrounds, and the game’s latest teaser announces a release date of February 22nd, 2022, also according to the official website.
The teaser was unveiled yesterday at the Opening Night Live event at Gamescom 2021.
It is the moments set in an art gallery, when the paint-dripping pendulum of an exhibit swings between the fights, that I find so compelling. Aside from that, I really enjoy the fighting in the game. A big part of the attraction of Absolver was the ability to piece together your own moveset as you played, something that Sifu appears to be less focused on, even if it still includes unlocked talents. And even beyond that, it appears to be a highly gratifying Batman-style fighting system that involves dodging punches and hitting people in the thighs until they scream “Uncle!”
The action of Sifu takes place in a fictitious Chinese city, where you’ll investigate a mystery and seek vengeance for your family’s death with the help of a mysterious necklace. The pendant will bring you back to life after each death, but your character will appear to have aged each time you return.
Sifu will be available exclusively on the Epic Games Store at launch, with prices ranging from £32/€40/$40.
