Diablo II: Resurrected is on the way, but the game has a negative aura about it, with some members of the community stating that they are willing to support the project solely to boycott Activision Blizzard.
Since June 2021, the American publisher has been in the spotlight due to employee complaints about a toxic work environment, a difficult situation that resulted in the departure of several big names and the internal restructuring of some operational units with the goal of making Activision Blizzard a better place to work.
Diablo II: Resurrected will be the company’s first game released following the legal case, and many people are planning to boycott it in order to send a strong and direct message to the publisher.
The game’s producer (Vicarious Visions, an Activision Blizzard unit) confirmed in a recent interview that he is aware of the situation:
“Fans must do what they believe is right.” We’ve worked to support our colleagues at Blizzard, and the game has received great feedback.”‘We don’t know if this will have an influence on sales, but gamers are free to make their own decisions.”
The Vicarious Visions studio is not involved in Activision Blizzard’s administrative issues, but the team was concerned that players may boycott Diablo II: Resurrected, resulting in ‘unfair reprisal.’
