VR version of Resident Evil 4 suffered several censors

Resident Evil 4 VR, which will be released only for Oculus VR, has been significantly restricted as part of the platform’s exclusive release arrangement, according to The Happy Warrior website in an exclusive story.

The developers affirm, as indicated in the Japanese-translated introduction, that any content particularly related to “sexual harassment, sarcastic phrases, sexist dialogues, and expressions that may be indirectly linked to them have been removed.” In Japanese, the sentence reads:

“These were not inevitably removed as part of the translation or portability process, but were made by Armature Studio at OculusVR’s request and with CAPCOM’s consent.”

Achievements, role models, and sexist statements were all deleted from Summer VR. A iconic sequence, in which Loius and Leon must shelter Ashley in the house from a horde of Ganados, for example, was altered, with Ashley’s model modified and achievements eliminated.

Mentions of Ashley’s “ballistics” and accomplishments have been omitted from the VR version.

So far, the site confirms that 5 sequences and 29 lines of speech between Ashley and Leon have been omitted and/or changed. Surprisingly, the site verifies violent scenes such as Ganados’ wives being impaled on walls.

The VR version still contains graphically violent sequences.

As fans call it, RE4 is the masterpiece that pioneered the action horror game genre as we know it today. It was released for the GameCube in 2005 and has since been released on over a dozen different platforms. Resident Evil 4 VR will be available on Oculus Quest 2 on October 21st.
