Age of Empires 4, a resurrection of one of the finest real-time strategy (RTS) series ever made, is among the titles that will be included in Microsoft’s return to popular PC gaming classics. However, while the original three Age of Empires games were rebuilt and published as Definitive Editions, the fourth game offers a fresh take on the real-time strategy genre while remaining faithful to its core principles. While I wait for the full release of Age of Empires 4, here’s all you need to know about the game.

In the Xbox games showcase at Gamescom 2021, Adam Isgreen, the creative director of the Xbox, gave the audience a more in-depth look at the “Hands-on history” portions included in the game. In order to make it easier for players to empathize with the historical elements of the game, there are short interstitial video clips included into the game’s plot that the game studio got Lion TV to make. Humanized history is exactly what the creators are aiming with this new approach.
According to Isgreen, “the reaction has been favorable so far,” but he says it has been “insanely nerve-wracking” to include this sort of stuff in the game. One of the larger features in the game is the inclusion of extensive content about Castle building, falconing, horse taming, and Mongolian instrumentation. Age of Empire 4 news at E3 2021
Age of Empires 4 is set for release on Oct. 28, 2021, according to E3 2021. Fall 2021 is now the official release date for the game. Mod support is also anticipated “early 2022.”
Pre-ordering Age of Empires 4 gets you the Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition expansion “Dawn of the Dukes” for free. The Deluxe Edition is available now on Steam and Microsoft. a digital soundtrack, a unit counters chart, and an art compilation.
The Age of Empires 4 minimum system requirements are listed on the game’s Steam product page. In addition to the CPU and RAM, Intel HD 520 integrated graphics are listed. Neither the game nor the recommended specs have been announced.
World’s Edge’s Adam Isgreen and Emma Bridle revealed more details about the game in a seven-minute Xbox Showcase segment.
This expanded section gave us additional knowledge on two new civilizations, the Abbasid Dynasty and the French. They have a special structure called the “House of Wisdom” that may be improved during the game to help the economy and military. As a result, creators expect players will incorporate camels in all armies.
For a pocket boomer, the French are more economic, with a monument named the “House of Commerce.” Knights and lancers are important to the French in the “Hundred Years War” campaign led by Joan of Arc.
In the longer showcase, we saw some sea-to-sea and sea-to-land combat. Isgreen stated that player input helped emphasize the importance of naval combat in the Age series.
The video above also offers a detailed look at arrow movements, which were a hot topic for fans after the first gameplay release. It’s clear that this is a later build of the game, with smoother animations. Following fan input, weapon scale has been adjusted to appear more realistic.
The final two civilizations are listed on the Age of Empires official website, although details are still few. So far, we only know that the Holy Roman Empire and Russia will be exposed.
Age of Empires: Fan Preview
The Age of Empires 4 preview event in April provided us quite a bit of fresh data. At the event, they covered the four major cultures, provided more insight into the strategies, gave us a deeper look at the aesthetic and game design, and they had a revealing look at naval combat.

Age of Empires 4 official release date
We can officially confirm that Age of Empires 4 will launch on October 28, 2021. A beta test has been hinted at, but the information is still limited.
Shannon Loftis commented in a “Age of Empires 2020 in review” article published on the official Age website at the end of December, saying
We are making great progress on Age of Empires IV. I don’t want to make you jealous, but we are literally playing this game every day—both in Washington and Vancouver.
RTS development is funny: it takes a while to build the separate systems (AI, economy, sim, rendering, etc.), and then it takes a while for them to come together. But when they do, you suddenly have a game—a game that needs debugging and balance and polish— but the core of the game that you know you’re going to ship. And the best part is that it feels like an Age of Empires game.

Who is working on Age of Empires 4?
Ensemble Studios, a company located in Dallas, Texas, produced three of the Age of Empires games, as well as Halo Wars. After the release of Age of Empires 3, it didn’t appear like a fourth title was in the cards for Ensemble, as the studio had been shuttered in 2009. The community maintained the Age of Empires series after it was abandoned by its original developers, striving to keep the games interesting and active.
Shannon Loftis has been responsible for remastering the first three Age games. It has also worked with other studios such as Tantalus, Wicked Witch, and Forgotten Empires. Loftis offered clarification on the Age of Empires IP, saying that it no longer belongs to a single company, which was confirmed in an interview with Matt Brown of Windows Central.
Relic Entertainment is handling the new Age of Empires 4 project, which has been under production since before the Definitive Edition remasters have been out.
What are Age of Empires 4’s game mechanics like?
Age of Empires 4, a new RTS with a familiar feel, is based on current design principles and offers a new experience for the franchise. You must have your villagers collect resources, such as food, lumber, money, and stone. Mounted, infantry, and ranged units all have strong counters in the rock, paper, scissors gameplay of troop confrontations. And you will also need to dive into technologies that will help your civilization, as well as continue progressing through the Dark, Feudal, Castle, and Imperial Ages.
The Dark Age is when you are at the mercy of animals, dependent on them for food. This age is also defined by killing deer (which you might do with a scout). One new feature is to raze buildings by setting them on fire. Another is trading, and the Chinese are also raising taxes. The Feudal Age also sees confrontations with the enemy.
Castle Age is loaded with a ton of castles, siege weaponry, vast armies, and intelligent defense of city positions. Castles are making a comeback, and they are just as strong as they were in past games. Finally, you may watch the strongest pieces in the game in Imperial Age face off. Houses have paths that are paved, gunpowder is visible, and majorly sized armies encircle cities. Wonders may appear again, and each one might mean a new kind of success. Trebuchets are not as agile as siege engines, but they do considerable damage, and monks may still convert enemy units, even if it takes some time.
Although there are many common components, Age of Empires 4 is not aiming to imitate Age 2. It includes plenty of fresh exciting things to see. Units may now be deployed in combat on top of stone walls, and enemies can attack a defensive city by seizing a rampart and then shooting fireballs down at it. Pikemen use their long spears to withstand horse attacks, archers lay down defensive traps that must be dodged, monks spread out to convert opponents in hiding, and troops stay silent until the moment they ambush the enemy in thick forests. There will be no hero units, although troops can be supported in battle with other units. In the teaser, we witnessed it with the Mongol Khan.
On multiplayer maps, battles will have up to 1,600 troops total, each with eight players having a maximum population of 200. Siege units are essential for the game since they provide sluggish or defensive players a chance to set up an economy when they need to. The introduction of a fire mechanism should push players to move, even if the only option is to resort to aggression. In any case, this is a war game. The battlefield will have elevation like it did in Age 2. Higher land tends to provide a tactical advantage.

What civilizations are in Age of Empires 4?
The English, Chinese, Delhi Sultanate, Mongols, French, Abbasid Dynasty, Holy Roman Empire, and Russian civilizations are now confirmed. Post-launch civs are expected.
Age of Empires 4 focuses on variety and uneven balance. There’s still the triangle of pikemen, cavalry, and archers. But civilizations will be considerably more diverse than before. Mongols, for example, may pack up their entire city and move on. Due of their nomadic lifestyle, they use stone differently. The English, for example, play a lot like Britons in Age of Empires 2. This is done to familiarize returning players.
The game only includes civilizations that have left a significant influence on our planet. The aesthetics and creative choices will vary between civilizations, as will the gaming mechanics. Age 4 has greater historical information than any prior Age game.
Is there a campaign in AOE 4?
Age of Empires 4 will have a campaign that emphasizes historical authenticity. Formerly based on comparable civilizations, differentiating cultures is now a major focus of Age games. A new way of guaranteeing historical correctness helps. Adam Isgreen explains: There will be four playable medieval scenarios at launch. The Age 4 crew blew apart Age 2’s past. Campaigns now have chapters spanning several generations of gameplay.

Age of Empires 4 tries to build an interactive documentary between the game campaign missions and real-life history. Film crews and documentarians shot video at the campaign’s locations.
A golden overlay illustrates how these places appeared in the past and where your units would be stationed if transported to the present. With almost three hours of historical documentary video throughout the game, it’s guaranteed to teach a new generation of youngsters.
Is AOE4 coming to consoles?
At this point, there is no intention to make Age of Empires 4 available on consoles. While the game’s developers say they do not now plan to make a console version, they say they aren’t totally opposed to the idea.
The original Age of Empires series was a PC game; nevertheless, it’s understood that Microsoft’s real-time strategy games may be successful on consoles. Take a look at the Halo Wars series, and you’ll understand. And amazing keyboards and mice like the Razer Turret are become more popular, and this may solve the RTS controller problem.
